Family Time During the Holidays

 Hey Y'all

It is winter break around here. That means I have a 6 year old, 2 year old, and newborn underfoot most of the day. I'm always trying to come up with fun ways to hang out with the kiddos. This year I've decided we will do a variety of activities.

family time during the holidaysI think making and drinking cocoa is always a fun activity. I found a variety of super simple and customizable recipes here

You can also do family movie night. There are some great movies out there for kids of all ages. Here is a list of the top 15.

You can even do a family game night. Here is a brief list of some you and your littles may enjoy playing.

We actually like to do all three with some other activities mixed in. We like to include cookie making, gingerbread house decorating, going to see Christmas lights, and of course ornament/decoration making.

I think if you include the things here you will definitely keep the littles busy as well as have a ball this holiday season. Click the "here"s to get the most ideas.

Happy Holidays

Adapting to a New Sibling

Adapting to a New Sibling

It's no secret that it's sometimes hard to adapt to a new sibling, especially when your other children are younger. Consider the following three tips when helping your kids get to know their new brother or sister. The process may be easier than you think!

Stay Consistent
Of course, you can’t expect a newborn to follow the same rules that you put in place for your other children. Still, it's best to treat your kids equally whenever possible.

For example, if you bring along an extra bottle or jar of baby food on your next outing, bring a snack for your older child or children so they can all eat together. Your older child may get upset if they feel like they’re being treated unfairly. But, make sure that they understand that the rules can’t always be the same and that they still need to follow the rules even if they don’t seem fair.

Keep Old Routines Around
When a new sibling comes into the household, your older children may be worried that their lives aren’t going to be the same. Try to keep as many of your family routines the same as you can.

If your family usually eats together at the dinner table or gets up early to watch cartoons on Saturday morning, keep up the tradition once the new baby arrives. This will let them know that the things that they enjoy aren’t going to go away just because there’s a new member of the family.

Encourage Older Siblings to Help Out
Often times, older brothers and sisters love “helping” out with a new baby. Whether it’s bringing you the diaper bag when it’s changing time or helping you to tuck the baby in at night, getting your older kids involved is a great way to make them feel included and appreciated. Not only will it help bring them closer to the new baby, it will also help them feel closer to you.

This is just three easy ways to help your other kids get used to their new sibling. As you can see, they're all easy to put into place and don't cost a thing. Remember, with a little patience and a lot of love, you're kids will be best friends before you know it!

Fall activities for kids

fall

Fall Activities for Kids

If you're looking for fun, fun activities for kids, there are literally hundreds of thousands to choose from. The following list includes appropriate suggestions for kids of all ages. Get ready... get set... have fun!
    Pumpkin Patch
  • Make pinecone bird feeders, simply by coating pinecones with peanut butter and covering them with bird seed. Hang them up outside near a window so you have the best view of the birds when they come to eat.
  • Stuff some old clothes with newspapers or straw to make a scarecrow for the front yard. You can either set it up in an outdoor chair, or make a stand for it out of PVC pipe. Don't forget to the straw hat!
  • Decorate pumpkins for Halloween or just for fall in general. You can either help your kids carve the pumpkins like a jack-o-lantern, keep them whole and paint them or glue on decorations  like acorns, sequins, leaves and glitter.
  • Decorate the house for the holidays. Make fall themed decorations together out of things you find in nature to go along with your Halloween or Thanksgiving decorations.
  • Make your own candles. First, melt down some old candles on the stove. Then, dip candle wicks into the wax and let it cool. Because your candle may be uneven at the bottom, make sure it’s well supported when you light it.
  • Make your leftover Thanksgiving turkey into sandwiches you can eat at a backyard picnic. If you have a fire pit in your yard, you can roast some marshmallows for s’mores once the picnic is over.
  • Take your kids to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch. They tend to have activities like corn mazes, hay rides and petting zoos throughout the fall season.
  • Pop popcorn and have a movie night. If you subscribe to streaming service like Netflix or Hulu, finding the perfect family movies is easier than ever.
  • Create apple-print pumpkins. Cut an apple in half. Dip it in orange paint and press it on to a sheet of paper. The result is a fun pumpkin shaped. Allow the paint to dry and paint on a jack-o'-lantern face
These are just a few of the zillions of ideas for fall crafts. As you can see, they're all quite affordable and are easy to accomplish. Let your kids get creative with you. You'll probably be amazed by what transpires.

Now on to my review of it

The twilight constellation heart projection night light is super cute. It can charge 2 ways either with the usb charger or with sunlight. It projects hearts and stars in red, green, and blue and several variations in between on any surface its pointed at when lit. It is great for any kid that is not quite ready to sleep in the dark. It even has an auto setting as well as just an on setting. Although the heart is pink, Z absolutely loved it. He also enjoys showing it to baby A.

I added a video to show the Night Light going through some of the color changes. Enjoy!!!

Fennel Essential Oil #Review

Fennel essential oil is a galactogogue. This oil can play an important role for lactating mothers. It can increase the amount of milk in them by boosting production of a hormone called estrogen. This benefits the baby as well as the mother. This milk also inherits some of the carminative and digestive properties of fennel oil and protects the baby from flatulence, indigestion and gas, which are very common in infants.

Information from the company

  • 100% Pure, Organic Therapeutic Grade Fennel 10ml Essential Oil
  • Botanical Name: Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce
  • Comes in 10ml amber glass essential oil bottle. European Dropper Cap included
  • Fennel Essential Oil has a sweet earthy aroma similar to aniseed with hints of pepper.
More information can be found here.

For these reasons, I created a boobie butter. I combined the fennel oil with a combination of coconut oil and shea butter. I mixed 2 TBSP Shea butter and 2 TBSP coconut oil with 10 drops of Fennel Essential Oil. I started by whipping the shea butter and coconut oil together with my hand mixer. Then I gradually added the fennel oil to the base while continuing to whip it.

It has increased her milk supply as well as aided in preventing sore nipples.
